Summary Description

The Center for Climate Systems Research at Columbia University is accepting applications for a PART-TIME Staff Associate position. The Staff Associate will work up to 15 hours a week.

The Staff Associate (SA) will be responsible for assisting the Adjunct Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR); Research Physical Scientist at NASA GISS with research project activities such as climate modeling efforts. The projects will involve programming computer climate models in diagnosing modern, past, and future changes to the hydrologic cycle, especially as it projects onto water isotopologues. Modern analyses will involve assessing mode variability, MJO, QBO, strat-trop exchange, etc.

Specifically the part-time Staff Associate will provide assistance to the Adjunct Associate Research Scientist with: Implementing existing analysis scripts to the current climate model at CCSR; and developing existing support programs scripts for running climate model

Minimum Degree Required

Bachelors degree

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, computer science, earth science, applied physics/math, or related field of study is required. At least 4 years related work experience with 2 years’ of experience working in climate modeling. A MA degree in environmental science, computer science, earth science, applied physics/math, or related field of study can substitute for 2 years of experience.

Qualified candidates must also possess:
Fluency in at least one of the following: python, R, C++, Matlab, IDL, Java, FORTRAN, Julia
Aptitude for learning FORTRAN

This is a part-time research position for an anticipated period of up to 1 year contingent upon performance and funding. Weekly work schedule of approximately 15 hours.
